Name: Miranda Bennett @mirandapeanut
Jan 21/22nd goal: Everesting Roam (eeek) Occupation: Lawyer / Mum / Cyclist Why are you riding with @alpineeveresting? #womenonbikescandoamazingthings. Because one of my motto’s is to say YES! Yes to riding with an amazing group of old and new friends. Yes to challenging myself in a way that I never have before. Yes to learning more and spreading the word about a topic (Indigenous health) that I know little about. You don’t get anywhere or learn anything by saying No. What does this event mean to you? I have been shocked to hear during the past 6 months of this journey about the disparities that STILL exist today in Australia in our health care system for our First Nations friends. I love that I can do something to bring awareness to issue that doesn’t get a lot of airtime. Longest ride: Furthest: 210km – Around the Bay in the Day Longest time in the saddle: Half Everest training ride – Berowra East Climb. Favourite cycling memory: L’Etape 170km / 2500m ride 4 months after having my 3rd baby (and not a lot of sleep). I was that crazy lady breastfeeding at the finish line!!! Funniest on-bike moment: Creating a “bike race” with a bunch of mates that involved riding up Macquarie Pass and with the kicker being you had to eat a pie before you had crossed the finish line…remember that @kouttsgeorgia Greatest cycling or sporting achievement: In a former life (pre kids, mortgage etc) I was a rower and was in the Aussie Rowing Team for a number of years and won 3 x world championships in the LW4X event with another bunch of amazing and strong female athletes. A big shout out to my oldest and dearest rowing mates – go the lighty chicks @_alice_mac @ajhalliday1 @salannemartin @sally.callie @ingodingo13 @tarakel @brondownie @hannaheveryhall @zitabriones Favourite event: I love a “Gran Fondo” event that is out of town (L’Etape, Mudgee Classic, Bowral Classic). Favourite bike snack: I discovered the power of chips ¾ up Perisher – so good. Ice cold Coke / Solo and of course any coffee (hot or iced!) Coffee order: Piccacino (piccolo with chocolate on top) Favourite climb: Macquarie Pass – the road is smooth and the scenery is stunning! How many bikes do you own? Not enough. 2 road bikes and a fixie, next on the wish list is a gravel bike. Tips for endurance riding: eat, eat and eat…then smile and enjoy it. Also realise that there will be highs and lows but you CAN do it. Tips for cycling mums/women: It’s better for your pelvic floor than running! How do you juggle work/family/cycling?
Say YES, you will be surprised as to what you are capable of.
