Name: Jacqui Logan-Powell @jloganpowell
Jan 21/22nd goal: Everesting Roam
Occupation: Financial Markets at Westpac
Why are you riding with @alpineeveresting?
I injured myself in an accident in March (3 fractures in my pelvis) so in June I recruited Bec Hoschke to help get me back on the bike and we decided I needed something to aim for. That started as the Alpine Classic and somehow grew to an Everesting Roam!
Longest was 212km from Sydney to Wollongong and back but toughest was the 175km Half Everest on 31 October with some others from the @alpineeveresting team
Favourite cycling memory: I’ve completed 5 Westpac Tour de Cure Australia tours and rolling into Barangaroo with 100 riders and all our support crew is always a buzz. But probably the best was 2019 in my first year as a ride leader – so incredibly satisfying getting everyone home safe and seeing many people achieve what they never dreamed was possible
Greatest sporting achievement:
It’s probably a tie between the Half Everest in October 2021 and the Oxfam 100km Trailwalker in August 2011
Favourite bike snack: Cliff Bars, Roast potatoes (thanks for that tip @drelly_warren!), Xmas mince pies, nuts
Coffee order: Flat white (or piccolo if I’m in a hurry!)
How many bikes do you own? 2 (and of course contemplating options for #3!)
How do you juggle work/family/cycling?
For me the indoor trainer was a game changer in enabling me to fit in training when it suits. Also cycling ticks so many boxes for me – physical health, mental health, socialising and giving back to the community… multi-tasking at its best!
What would you say to a woman who is contemplating joining our next adventure but has some self-doubt?
I have no idea if I’ll make it, but I have learnt that a huge amount comes down to having the confidence, so give it a go and what’s the worst that could happen?!
