🚲 It’s #donatelifeweek2021 so I thought I’d mention organ donation here to remind you to register to become a donor if you haven’t already.😀❤️
One person deciding to donate their organs can transform the lives of 10 people. 🥰 Those 10 people have family and friends who are also directly touched. Around 1,650 people are on the transplant waiting list in Australia at any one time. 🩸Anyone can become an organ donor. Age or having a pre-existing medical condition doesn’t rule you out. Cancer survivors, and even people with active cancer, can become organ donors too. Some organ donations, such as a kidney, may be done when a person is still living. Others are possible only if a person wishing to donate passes away under certain circumstances. Almost anyone (except those with certain blood or eye cancers) can donate their corneas even if other organs can’t be used.😊 🚴🏽♀️If you’re into the idea of curing cancer, like those of us who ride with @tourdecureaus, organ donation can also help lead to medical breakthroughs through cancer research. 🤩 🗣Make sure that your family knows thoughts about organ donation because they may be asked to give consent. The decision about which organs can be safely used is made by medical professionals, as long your family agrees that you wanted to donate. 🔹There are around 13 million Australians aged 16+ who are eligible to register as an organ and tissue donor – but haven’t yet. 🟢Register on the @donatelifetoday website, all you need is your Medicare card and one minute and you could help save a life one day and change someone’s life forever. ⁉️Think you’re already registered? Best to check – visit the registration page at www.donatelife.gov.au Please tag some people below to get them thinking about registering as an organ donor.👇👇 #donatelife #organdonation #tissuedonation #greatregistrationrace #cancerawareness #cancersurvivorship #cancerfacts #curingcancer #changinglives Source: @transplantaus, cancer.net @yerin_eleanorduncan_ahs @yourfamilydoctors @yonihodgetts
