Welcome!
We are a team of endurance athletes committed to raising money for cancer research, support and prevention through epic cycling adventures. We are keen to raise awareness about the health imbalances that exist for First Nations people. The Alpine Everesting Team and its motto "Climb to Empower" has been founded on this basis. Aboriginal people are 40% more likely to die from cancer than other Australians. We have specifically focused on riding to help close this cancer gap and improve outcomes for First Nations people with cancer and their families.
Everesting Roam
On January 21/22nd 2022, the Alpine Everesting Team of 20 women and 7 men from QLD, NSW, and Victoria rode an Everesting ROAM challenge (400km+, climbing 10,000m elevation in 36 hours) in the Victorian High Country. Only 30 women in the world (9 Australian) had previously completed a ROAM challenge. In addition to being the largest ever mass female ROAM event, the team also had the youngest woman to ever complete the challenge, aged 17, and the oldest, aged 57.

Introducing Jess Cain-Westaway
Proud Gomeroi woman
October 2022. We are very pleased to announce that in October 2022, Jess started her new job as Cancer Navigator at Yerin Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Health Centre!
There is momentum behind this movement now as 4 pilot sites across NSW are also looking to recruit their own Aboriginal-identified Cancer Navigator positions.
We hope this means Jess’s position & other similar roles will be funded longer term to break down cancer access barriers & improve the disparities in outcomes & experiences.

To everyone who has supported our project, thank you!
This would not have been possible without all the amazing connections we’ve made along the way. The networks and relationships created through Alpine Everesting will continue to drive change in many different ways. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!
